Abstract

Learning Logic Foundation, headed by Calvin Pearce, was a non-profit think tank created to promote educational discussion and experimental programs between senior citizens and school-age youth. The collection includes correspondence, organization history, board meeting materials, newspaper clippings and neighborhood improvement projects.

Biographical/Historical

Learning Logic Foundation was a non-profit organization that incorporated in December 1991. Calvin Pearce served as its founder and Executive Director. The organization advertised itself as the first inter-generational think tank in Illinois. The group met at Carter G. Woodson Regional Library to publicly discuss complex problems and explore solutions to social problems in the community. Their mission was to decrease illiteracy, homelessness, drug addiction, domestic violence and gang violence.

Scope and Content

This small collection contains manuscripts and photographs related to the organizational history of Learning Logic Foundation and their social justice work. Also included are materials related to Calvin Pearce, including his 1994 campaign for 21st ward alderman and the Morgan Park High School reverse discrimination lawsuit (he was involved as a school board member).
