Biographical Note

Laura Bell Shaw served as president of the Women’s Auxiliary Board of Provident Hospital in the 1980s. She was also a golf enthusiast and organizer of an early African American women’s golf organization. Shaw was a resident of Chicago’s Roseland neighborhood. She passed away in November 2002.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of materials related to Shaw’s service as president of the Women’s Auxiliary Board of Provident Hospital and materials related to Midwest golf organizations. Of special note are materials related to a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Provident Medical Center in August 1982.

This small collection is arranged into two series by type of material; Series 1: Manuscripts, 1948-1988, undated and Series 2: Photograph and Memorabilia and Photograph, 1982 August. Items in each series are organized alphabetically by title.
