Abstract
Larry Hart, a designer and actor, graduated from the Goodman School of Drama in 1968. Collection includes posters for productions at Victory Gardens, Next Theatre Company and Pary Production Company.
Biographical/Historical
Born in Wyoming, F. Lawrence (Larry) Hart entered the Chicago theater community as a student in the Goodman Theatre where he graduated in 1968. His first poster was for Sweet Eros and Mighty Aphrodite when it was staged by Kingston Mines in the apartment of Donna Dunlap in 1973. His next poster for Organic Theater Company’s The Wonderful Ice-Cream Suit was such a success that many other theaters began commissioning him, including Steppenwolf Theatre, Pary Production Company, Next Theatre in Evanston, Ill. and Victory Gardens.
Mr. Hart’s acting credits are as numerous as his poster designs. He performed at the Goodman Theatre, Chicago City Players and Touchstone, as well as being a founding member of the Kingston Mines Theatre Company and Pary Production Company.
Scope and Contents
The collection includes posters and other graphic works designed by Larry Hart for shows produced in Chicago and Evanston, Ill. Oversize Folder 6 includes a poster for an exhibit featuring Hart’s work, “The Poster Art of Larry Hart” held at the Theatre Building.
