Abstract
The Lake View Council on Religious Action was organized in 1940 by representatives from local churches and synagogues and members of the Kiwanis Club of Lake View. The collection contains documents and photographs from their annual award luncheon as well as a small number of general historical files.
Biographical/Historical
The Lake View Council on Religious Action was founded in 1940 through the efforts of a group of clergy representing Catholic, Protestant and Jewish faiths as well as the cooperative efforts of the Kiwanis Club of Lake View, under the chairmanship of Reverend John Heyworth. The aim and purpose of the Council was to encourage better understanding among people of differing religious beliefs and to actively cooperate with other organizations toward those ends.
It sought to accomplish those aims in two primary ways. One was through its annual brotherhood award luncheon where community citizens and clergy were recognized and given awards for being "good neighbors." The other was through disbursement of donations to a variety of local not-for-profit, civic, religious and social service organizations.

This collection contains records from the Lake View Council on Religious Action’s Annual Awards Luncheon, including correspondence, clippings, programs, notes, fliers, biographies of award recipients, posters, and photographs. It also contains a small amount of general correspondence and donation records.
