Biographical Note
Joseph Logsdon was born on March 12, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois. He received his Master of Arts in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago and a doctorate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the mid-1960s. His master’s thesis was entitled Reverend Archibald Carey and the Negro in Chicago Politics, covering the years 1909-1919. After graduating, Logsdon spent the next 30 years teaching at the University of New Orleans. One of his students was so impressed by his teaching and mentoring that he later endowed a scholarship in history that is named after Joseph Logsdon.

Scope and Content
This collection consists of the typed manuscript that Joseph Logsdon submitted to the University of Chicago for his Master of Arts degree in social sciences. He gives an excellent early history of Archibald J Carey movement in Chicago religion and Negro politics.
