Yo Adrian, I can't believe it's been 40 years!
Rocky hit theaters in December 1976, and he's been the heavyweight champ of our hearts ever since. For this Throwback Thursday, let's look at Rocky and other iconic movies of 1976.
Over four decades and seven films, we've followed Rocky's ups and downs: from trying to woo Adrian in the neighborhood pet store to chopping wood in Siberia to train for his big Cold War showdown against Ivan Drago to being called back to the ring from retirement because of an ESPN computer-simulated fight in Rocky Balboa.
The latest chapter in Balboa's saga, 2015's Creed, saw him training the son of his rival-turned-friend and trainer Apollo Creed.
Did you know that Rocky was nominated for 10 Academy Awards? It won Best Picture, beating acclaimed films like All the President's Men, based on the book of the same name, and Taxi Driver.
Finally, no post about the movies of 1976 would be complete without mentioning One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, based on the novel by Ken Kesey.
