Celebrate D.E.A.R. Every Day!

Celebrate Beverly Cleary’s birthday on April 12, and all year long, by making reading a habit in your house with D.E.A.R. – Drop Everything and Read. Inspired by her novel Ramona Quimby, Age 8, Cleary hope to inspire people of all ages to make reading an everyday activity in the home, classroom and library. So Drop Everything and Read with your family today and every day.

Looking for some inspiration? Try one of our favorite reads:

Edwina, the Dinosaur Who Didn't Know She Was Extinct: This is a favorite in my house not only because it is about a dinosaur who is alive today, but also because of the humor that is a signature of any Mo Willems book. Pair this with Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs and you will be rolling on the floor with laughter.

The Cat on the Mat Is Flat: Rhyming and alliteration abound in this collection of nine stories for beginning readers. My favorite is the tale of a frog on a log who races a dog on a cog around and around the bog, until a hog tries to stop them. Pair this with The Big Fat Cow That Goes Kapow for even more rhyming fun.

Love, Aubrey: If you're looking for something to make you laugh and cry, try this heart-wrenching book about a young girl struggling to cope with the loss of her family. Told partly in  flashbacks and letters to the people she has lost, this book pairs well with See You At Harry's for another emotionally gratifying novel.

Love, Aubrey is available in multiple formats.

Far Far Away: Looking for something a bit frightening? This dark and foreboding re-imagined Grimm tale will leave you reading with the lights on all night long. Pair this with Adam Gidwitz's Grimm series for even more nightmare-inducing reads.

Far Far Away is available in multiple formats.
