Season 3 of the Victoria television series premieres tonight on Masterpiece PBS! Writer Daisy Goodwin inspired the series with her book of the same title and she is also the creator of the show, an entertaining and historically fascinating drama about the beloved Queen Victoria of England. Goodwin did plenty of research, including reading the personal diary of Queen Victoria herself, so you can trust the show's historical accuracy (with, admittedly, some liberties) in depicting what is now called the Victorian Era.
If you didn't catch the first two seasons and don't want to miss out on the tumultuous political lessons, heartbreaking family life and deliciously romantic fun of 19th century royalty, then check out the materials below.
Victoria Goodwin's first-person narrative about Queen Victoria's early reign tells the story of a naive and shy - yet determined and confident - young woman who is, as the then Prime Minister Lord Melbourne tells her, "every inch a Queen."
Victoria Season One of the series focuses on Queen Victoria's resolute desire to prove her rightful place as England's monarch while romance abounds in her personal life. The season comes to a close with the Queen's marriage proposal to her cousin, Prince Albert of Sax-Coburg and Gotha.
Victoria Season Two focuses on motherhood and politics, portraying how the monarchy responded to such crises such as the Irish Potato Famine.
