Books for a New Baby

Did you recently welcome a new baby into your family? Here are a few types of books you may want to check out from the library to introduce to your little one. It's never too early to start sharing books with your baby. Reading to them early and often is the best way to encourage a love of reading!

Reading before bed is soothing for both babies and their grownups!  We love You Are Getting Sleepy and Steam Train, Dream Train to help establish a relaxing bedtime routine.

Interactive books where you tap, touch, lift a flap, rub are not only fun but also help baby work on sensory exploration and fine motor skills. Press Here and Tap the Magic Tree invite baby to interact with the book to help move the story forward.

Babies love looking at photos of other babies! Real life images like the ones found in My Heart Beats  and Global Baby Playtime can help your baby learn about people, places, and things they may or may not see every day.

Did you know that babies can only see black, white, and gray until they are around 3 months old? At 3 to 4 months old they start to see bright colors, especially red, yellow and blue. High contrast books designed for infants like Black & White in Color are a great way to hold baby’s attention.

Babies and young children start learning how language works by hearing sounds from the people they love the most. Reading books like Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?  and Little Blue Truck which have steady rhythm activate their brains to start hearing spoken language.

When your new baby is really little, it can be hard to find ways to interact with them. Books like All of Baby, Nose to Toes and Play With Me give examples of ways to play with your little one.
