Starting in 1981 as the Free Shakespeare Company, the theatrical organization changed its name to Chicago Shakespeare Company (CSC) in 1985. The company sought to bring innovative approaches to Shakespearean and related works and was committed to bringing performances to those who might not otherwise see them with their touring company.
