Top Picks: Cate Blanchett

Actress of stage and screen Cate Blanchett turns 50 this month. The Australian native has been in countless award-winning productions. I remember her most in her role as Galadriel from The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but if fantasy epics from the early 2000s aren't for you, here are top picks of all other things "Cate."

Blanchett has been nominated for several Oscars and won for her films Blue Jasmine and The Aviator. However, her first nomination was for the 2007 film Elizabeth, in which she plays a young Queen Elizabeth I of England stepping into her new role.

Playing a character based on the artist Bob Dylan, Blanchett earned critical praise for her role in I'm Not There. The movie follows six musicians drawing inspiration from different stages of Dylan's musical career. Blanchett is the only female actress who plays Dylan in the movie.

Recently, Blanchett has starred in films featuring strong female leads. She starred in Carol, which portrays a forbidden love affair between two women in the early 1950s. She also starred in Ocean's 8, which tells the story of an all-female heist.

Next, Blanchett plays Bernadette Fox in the movie based on the novel Where'd You Go, Bernadette. The film is directed by Richard Linklater and premieres this August.
