Even though CPL locations are closed, you can still get a library card to use our online offerings: eBooks and magazines, audiobooks and online resources.
Apply online: Please note: You must be a Chicago resident who's never had a Chicago Public Library card before.
If the system doesn't create a card for you, it's likely you've had a card before. Contact us, and we'll set you up with your old card number. And if you know your old card number but find that it's expired, complete our update form and we'll renew it.
Once we reopen, bring in photo ID and proof of current address, and we'll give you a library card with full borrowing privileges so you can check out books, DVDs and CDs, and reserve computers.
