Scope and Content

This anonymous scrapbook has been given its name from the title of the commercially-published “Theatre Record and Scrapbook” in which it has been compiled. Its source is unknown; it was cataloged by the Chicago Public Library in September 1950 and transferred to the Special Collections Division at some later date. In 1986 it was rebound, without disturbing its contents.

The early entries in this scrapbook are interesting in that both New York and Chicago programs or cast lists are provided for the productions included, as well as reviews from Chicago newspapers. The latter portion of the volume contains programs from theatres in Detroit and elsewhere, as well as Chicago. There are a few pictures, but no annotations of any kind.

Arrangement

The scrapbook remains bound in its original order. Productions are indexed alphabetically for ease of use. An asterisk indicates productions mounted outside Chicago.
