Teen Books for Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Fans

Are you as thrilled as I am that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is back with Season 2 on Netflix? Whether you love her fantastic sarcastic stand-up comedy, her amazingly chic fashion or the early 1960s time period, here are some teen books for fans of the show.

The retro sets of Mrs. Maisel make you feel like you're strolling the streets of New York City in 1960. Although set a few years earlier, in 1955, the historical portion of Pulp captures the lighthearted optimism of the show. Janet Jones embarks on a romance with her best friend Marie and decides to write her own lesbian pulp fiction novel in this charming novel that includes a lot of fascinating LGBTQ history.

One of my favorite parts of Mrs. Maisel is Midge's eye-popping colorful wardrobe. The over-the-top fashions created by The Belles are just as impressive and delightful. In Orleans, rich citizens pay the Belles to use their magic to improve their clothes, hairstyles and makeup, and Dhonielle Clayton's descriptions of their creations are not to be missed.

Of course, Midge's most outstanding characteristic is her comedic wit. The funniest book I read in 2018, full of clever female characters, was My Plain Jane. It's tough to explain how hilarious Jane Eyre and Charlotte Bronte ghosthunting together can be, but you'll just have to read it yourself.

What will you read when you're finished binge-watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel?
