Family Road Trip Audiobook Recommendations

Is your family taking a road trip this summer? Mine is—and we're planning to listen to an audiobook or two on our seven-hour drive. It can be tough to find an audiobook everyone agrees on. These family stories offer different viewpoints and characters that will entertain your whole group.

There's something for everyone in The Misadventures of the Family Fletcher. Follow the four Fletcher boys and their dads through a school year filled with soccer practice, homework, a grumpy neighbor, an invisible cheetah named Flare and some truly hilarious antics.  If you can't get enough of the boys of the Family Fletcher, take a summer vacation with them in The Family Fletcher Takes Rock Island.

At the heart of The Maze of Bones is the Cahill family, the most powerful family in the world with international connections. This adventure will entertain both fiction and nonfiction lovers, as Amy and Dan go on an international clue-finding quest that leads them through history. You'll be happy to know that when you've finished the first installment, you can check out Book 2: One False Note. The rest of the 39 Clues audiobooks are on Hoopla.

For a short trip, listen to Honey, which packs a sweet story into just three hours. Melody's father suddenly has a secret, and Melody is determined to figure it out. With help from a dog named Mo and the ladies at the Bee Hive Beauty Salon, you may solve the mystery before Melody does!

I couldn't leave out one of my all-time favorite stories: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The story starts with an introduction to the whole Bucket family, from the grandparents all the way down to Charlie, our star. There's plenty of characters your family will love and love to hate in this whimsical story.

If you're looking for even more audiobook recommendations, try one of the American Library Association's Odyssey Award winners, like this year's winner, Anna and the Swallow Man.
