I Don’t Like Nazis

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and I'm sure I'm going to offend somebody, but sometimes a man just needs to take chances. I have to say it. I don't like Nazis. They rub me the wrong way, and for some reason, they have a bad habit of turning up everywhere.

Swastika Nation tells the story of Fritz Kuhn, who ran the German-American Bund in the late 1930s, growing so disturbingly popular that mayors, mobsters and journalists took it upon themselves to fight the rise of fascism in America. Luckily, Kuhn was caught embezzling, thereby ruining his career, and the country's involvement in World War II put an end to the German-American Bund.

But just because we hated Nazis didn't mean we couldn't work with them. Operation Paperclip retells, in exhaustive detail, the efforts of the U.S. government to recruit Nazi scientists for assistance in the emerging Cold War. Many of these scientists would've gone to trial for war crimes if we hadn't found them useful, and their contributions to medicine and the space program have left an indelible mark on American society.

And now they're in our military. Irregular Army claims that the United States military has relaxed its standards to recruit more troops. As a result, not only is the military being filled with the ranks of the undereducated and out-of-shape, but it's also finding itself with a disturbingly high percentage of neo-Nazis and assorted gang members.

I know I should be a welcoming member of a pluralist society, open to every point of view, but it still bothers me. I'm sorry, everybody. I just don't like Nazis.
