All About Gratitude: Books for Kids

With Thanksgiving around the corner, it's easy to remember to give thanks for what we have. But we can take time to be grateful any day of the year. At this time of year, I am thankful for family and friends, a warm roof over my head and people who make a positive impact on my life. Looking for some suggestions of how to show you're thankful or grateful? Check out some of my favorite picture books illustrating simple gestures of gratitude.

The Thank You Book tells us that Thank you isn't just for learning manners. It's also for when something wakes a little hum—a happy little hum—inside you. It's what we feel inside us that makes us glad.

Are you a nature lover? Thank You, Bees is the perfect book to remind us what the Earth provides.

I love Thank You, Omu!'s simple message on the back of the book, "Sharing is a lot like giving thanks—they both bring people together." I fell in love with this book not only for its wonderful story but also for illustrator Oge Mora's amazing collage artwork.

Are you a fan of poetry? Thanku is a collection of poems by diverse poets exploring a wide range of ways to be grateful. See what some of your favorite children's authors, such as Margarita Engle and Jane Yolen, are thankful for.

Looking for ways to show gratitude? Giving Thanks has more than a hundred ways to say "Thank you!" Check out the tips in the back of this book for making your own gratitude jar or thank you cards.
