Summary: Revolution (1750-1805) re-creates the era of American independence. While colonists seek autonomy, slavery is challenged from within. More than 100,000 blacks escape bondage, threatening slavery's existence. General George Washington refuses to accept black volunteers, but when Virginia's governor promises freedom to all who fight for England, the army relents. The United States walks a tightrope between property rights and human rights.
