Summary: The episode begins with the nightmarish Union disaster at Fredericksburg and comes to two climaxes the following spring: at Chancellorsville, Lee wins his most brillant victory but loses Stonewall Jackson; at Vicksburg, Grant's attempts to take the city by storm are stopped.
