Photography by Frank Styburski at Harold Washington Library Center

The Harold Washington Library Center hosts an exhibit celebrating Polish American Heritage Month from October 7 through November 30 featuring artist Frank Styburski.

Styburski photographs abstracted patterns and shapes of intense color, found in everyday things. He lives in Chicago and works on its streets, where he developed his skills and honed his eye for pictures. He shows his work in galleries and nontraditional exhibit spaces, where people gather to work, play and do business. He has participated in numerous group and solo shows in Chicago in collaboration with community groups and arts advocacy organizations.

Styburski will give an Artist Talk sharing his personal story and creative process at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 18 at the Harold Washington Library Center.

Artist Statement

My aim is to make pictures that connect with my viewers in a positive way. I try to isolate the elements of a situation that are interesting, intriguing or beautiful by simplifying their context. My goal is to create images with impact, that spark interest and delight. I like to focus on strong color, shapes, contrast, abstraction and situational irony.
