Love Me Forever! Oh! Oh! Oh! Exhibit Explores Marriage

In Love Me Forever! Oh! Oh! Oh!, a selection from The Best American Comics 2013, cartoonist Jeremy Sorese explores the idea of getting married. The exhibit is on display through March 8 in the Congress Corridor on the ground floor of the Harold Washington Library Center.

Twenty states now recognize same-sex marriage, with court cases pending in many others. Recognized marriage has been a goal for members of the LGBT community for decades. Now that it’s very much a reality for many, what does it mean?

Faced with a decision he had not previously believed possible, Sorese uses his parents’ heterosexual marriage as a model to contemplate the benefits and downfalls of marriage. He concludes that marriage is both as rewarding and as difficult for gay couples as it has been for straight couples.
