Art Exhibit by Diana Lee at Budlong Woods Branch

Budlong Woods Branch hosts an Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month art exhibit through the month of May featuring artist Diana Lee.

I chose to use fiber as one of my media to symbolize timelessness. Fiber has long been associated with humans and is a gift from nature. Also, fiber is a pure material, having a natural texture that can be used to represent changing circumstances.

For over 30 years, I worked in painting, dyeing, stitching, gathering, embroidering, weaving and sculpturing, all using the fiber medium. The works of art are created manually, using my hands, spirit and vision. These works are integrated into the nature of the fiber. Over the years I’ve grown to miss the mountains in Korea. I never realized how beautiful the Korean mountains were throughout the four seasons.

I work together fabrics with color and texture, using fleeting imagery to communicate expressions of a whispering for the mountains.
