Learn About My Library Card Status

Find your library card status in your My CPL account or by calling (312) 747-4636.

Your status describes the current standing of your library card and is not affected by the renewal date of your library card. Library cards must be updated every two years.

Good means your card is currently in good standing and that you have access to all library services that apply to your card type. This includes checking out materials, using a computer, accessing electronic resources, and placing holds or renewing materials online.

Restricted means that there are fines/fees exceeding $1, overdue items or lost materials associated with your library card. Some library services will be restricted until these issues are resolved. You can view these items through your My CPL account. Please visit any library location for assistance in resolving these issues.

Information Request means that the Chicago Public Library does not have complete information for your patron account. All library services are still available and CPL requests that you update your personal information on your next visit.
