Volunteer

The Chicago Public Library offers volunteer opportunities in many neighborhoods across the city. From sorting books to assisting with window displays, the tasks tackled by our volunteers help to further the mission of the library.

To volunteer at your neighborhood library, use the library locator and call to set up an interview at the location of your choice. To volunteer at the Harold Washington Library Center, call (312) 745-3927. Please note that all adult volunteers are required to submit to fingerprinting and a background check conducted by the City of Chicago.

Junior Volunteers

Grade school and high school students ages 12-18 are invited to help out with the Summer Learning Challenge from June 17, 2013 – August 10, 2013. Volunteers play a key part in the success of this program. To find out about volunteer positions and hours, contact your neighborhood library or sign up online at onesummerchicago.org. (Space and capacity are limited.)
