How Do I...?
Volunteer
The Chicago Public Library offers volunteer opportunities in many neighborhoods across the city. From sorting books to assisting with window displays, the tasks tackled by our volunteers help to further the mission of the library. High school students wishing to fulfill service learning hours may help out with the Summer Reading Program.
To volunteer at your neighborhood library, use the library locator and call to set up an interview at the location of your choice. To volunteer at the Harold Washington Library Center, call (312) 745-3927. Please note that all adult volunteers are required to submit to fingerprinting and a background check conducted by the City of Chicago.
