Book Title: It's Kind of a Funny Story
Author: Ned Vizzini
Review:
It's Kind of a Funny Story, IS kind of a funny story. Told by a witty, yet somewhat unstable, teen by the name of Craig Gilner, this title takes one down the familiar path of teenaged depression, from the happiest moment of his life, to rock bottom shortly afterwards. When I read the back of the book I was skeptical – but I read the first page and his voice was so natural, I couldn’t put it down. The story does make you want to laugh out loud, but at the same time, his life is so messed up that you feel guilty for wanting to laugh at him. when he finds himself feeling so depressed he no long has the will to go on living, he checks into a hospital and ends up making some of the truest friends he will ever make (even if they are patients in a psych ward). Those quirky individuals finally set him on the path of healing and sadly, I wished I could have met those mental people too!
