Back to School

Dear Parent/Guardian:
The start of the upcoming school year is just around the corner, and Chicago Public Library wants to make sure every student returns to the classroom on the first day.
National studies have shown that it is vital for students to start the school year with strong attendance. Students who build good attendance habits are making the right choices to help them stay on track to graduate and succeed.
So, please mark your calendar with the following first day dates:
- Early-start (Track E) schools: Monday, August 8
- Regular-start schools: Tuesday, September 6
If you are unsure as to whether your child attends an early-start or a regular-start school, or if you need additional information, visit www.cps.edu/firstday for a list of Frequently Asked Questions or contact the Back-to-School Hotline at (773) 553-3CPS.
To ensure all families are aware of back to school, Chicago Public Schools will be hosting phone bank drives on July 25–August 5 and August 22–September 2 at both CPS Central Office (125 S. Clark St.) and Zenos Colman Elementary School (4655 S. Dearborn). If you would like to volunteer for a two-hour time slot, please sign up today at cpsbacktoschool.eventbrite.com/ for the Central Office phone bank and colmanbacktoschool.eventbrite.com/ for the Colman Elementary phone bank.
We look forward to seeing you and your child on the first day of school!
Sincerely,
Mary Dempsey
Commissioner, Chicago Public Library
