Book Title: Swindle
Author: Gordon Korman
Review:
Swindle is about two kids, Griffin and Ben, who decide to sleepover at a house that is supposedly haunted. The house is supposed to be demolished soon by the government. While in the house, Griffin could not fall asleep and got bored so he started to look around. He found an old beaten up desk. Fascinated with the drawers, he figured out that one wouldn’t budge. Finally he got it open. “It’s empty,” he thought to himself, but while shining his flashlight towards the back, a touch of color caught his eye. Looking at it he turned it over and saw that it was a baseball card. The next day, he and Ben went to a baseball card shop. They asked the clerk named S. Wendell Palomino (a.k.a. Swindle), a guy who was also looking for the same card, if it was real or not. He said “No, this is not real” but it was. Swindle went to the back room to tell his partner and Griffin and Ben overhear him talking about it and they decide they have to get that card back because Griffin did not want to lose a million dollars. He and Ben got a team together to get the card back. They figure out that Swindle has the card stashed in his house so Griffin and Logan, a helper, set off to go to the collector’s house to find the card. Logan gets hungry, so he looks to see what is in the fridge and finds a turkey. He grabs some and inside… I can’t tell you the rest because it will give it away. I think that kids should read this book if they like a mystery/adventure type of story.
