Goodman Theatre All-Star Reading of A Raisin in the Sun

Join us for a free concert reading of A Raisin in the Sun directed by Chuck Smith, the director of The Goodman Theatre’s award-winning May 2000 production. An all-star company will perform this American classic at the Harold Washington Library Center. The event is sponsored by The Goodman Theatre’s honorary chairman Albert Ivar Goodman.

Local attorneys discuss the impact of this landmark Supreme Court decision that led to racially restrictive covenants being declared unconstitutional. Panelists will include retired Alderman Leon DesPres; Truman K. Gibson, Jr., the plaintiff’s sole surviving attorney; retired U.S. District Court Judge George Leighton and retired Illinois Supreme Court Justice Seymour Simon. Moderated by former CBA President Chester L. Blair. Co-sponsored by the Chicago Bar Association.
