Writings of Willa Cather examines the history of westward expansion, life on the Plains and the Progressive Era through the writings of Willa Cather. Filmed in Red Cloud, Neb., this documentary features Cather’s childhood home.

Join us for a panel discussion of the themes in My Ántonia and Cather’s sources of inspiration for her art. Panelists will include Susan J. Rosowski, renowned Cather scholar, and Adele Hall, distinguished professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Moderated by Mary A. Dempsey, commissioner, Chicago Public Library.
Willa Cather’s Nebraska: Photographs by Lucia Woods

Photographer Lucia Woods’ vivid images capture the essence of Cather’s Nebraska. Works from Ms. Woods’ book with Bernice Slote, Willa Cather: A Pictorial Memoir, will be on exhibit along with a first edition of My Ántonia. A Chicagoan and New Yorker, Ms. Woods’ photographs have been exhibited across Nebraska, on the East Coast, in Santa Fe and at the Art Institute of Chicago.
Across the Prairie
For children ages 5–10, this NatureConnections story program kit features prairie-themed books, a bison puppet, a prairie dog game and a “bouquet” of prairie plants. Check your local library for program locations.
