Mayor's Letter
Dear Friends,
As Mayor and on behalf of the City of Chicago, I invite you to participate in the 10th annual Chicago Book Festival, a celebration of books, authors and reading happening throughout Chicago in October.
The Festival celebrates our City’s rich and diverse literary past and present with some of the country’s most accomplished authors. Book signings, author appearances, performances, workshops, discussions and more will be held at libraries, bookstores, universities, cafes, theaters and other local venues.
A highlight of the Festival is One Book, One Chicago. All Chicagoans are encouraged to read The Plan of Chicago: Daniel Burnham and the Remaking of the American City by Carl Smith in honor of the centennial of the Plan of Chicago, a landmark document that continues to shape our city. Please take part in any number of One Book, One Chicago events and discussions, including an appearance by Professor Smith on October 24th at the Harold Washington Library Center.
The Chicago Book Festival encourages us to celebrate the immense rewards of reading and the community of family, friends, colleagues and neighbors who take part in Chicago’s literary community. Please join us as we celebrate Chicago Book Festival and continue to create a culture of reading and lifelong learning throughout our city.
Sincerely,
Richard M. Daley
Mayor
