HONORING
Tom Wolfe Carl Sandburg Literary Award
Tom Wolfe, the moving force of New Journalism and the celebrated bestselling author of works including The Right Stuff, Bonfire of the Vanities and A Man in Full, will receive the 2008 Carl Sandburg Literary Award, the Midwest’s preeminent literary honor, for his astonishing breadth of work. Mr. Wolfe has received several awards for his essays and works of fiction and nonfiction including the American Book Award for nonfiction, the National Institute of Arts and Letters Harold Vursell Award for prose style and the Columbia Journalism Award.
Theresa Schwegel 21st Century Award
Theresa Schwegel, winner of the prestigious Edgar Allan Poe Award for mystery writing and author of crime fiction novels Officer Down, Probable Cause and Person of Interest, will be honored with the 21st Century Award, presented to a writer with ties to Chicago whose work the Foundation hopes to encourage.
All proceeds from the awards dinner benefit the Chicago Public Library and the Chicago Public Library Foundation
