Presented by the Chicago Public Library Department of Children and Young Adult Services and the Chicago Public Schools Department of Libraries, Best of the Best is a free, annual, all-day in-service program for librarians, teacher-librarians and reading and children’s literature specialists. Join us to learn about more than 150 titles for children and young adults which Chicago Public Library considers the very best books published in the previous year.
The Best of the Best books are selected by Chicago Public Library’s Children and Young Adult Services Department which reviews notable titles from among those selected for monthly Book Order evaluation throughout the year, as well as those suggested by our children’s librarians and recommended by a wide variety of review sources. Titles selected must adhere to the following criteria:
· Meet a variety of demands on the collection
· Make long term contributions to children’s literature
· Meet high standards of writing and illustration
· Add zip to programs and special projects
Special Guests: Best of the Best will feature a special guest author.
Location: Chicago Public Library Harold Washington Library Center, 400 South State Street (use the Plymouth Court entrance).
Cost: The event is FREE, but registration is mandatory.
Book Sales: Books will be available all day and offered by Sandmeyer's Bookstore (cash, credit cards or checks accepted).
Audience: Best of the Best is a professional development event intended for Librarians, Teacher-Librarians and Reading and Children’s Literature Specialists.
Check-In with Coffee/Refreshments: Complimentary coffee and refreshments will be available in the morning during check-in from 8:15-8:55 a.m.
Box Lunches Catered by Harry Caray's: A sandwich and beverage must be ordered in advance and will be provided for only those who request them with their registration.
