SUMMARY:Chicago Public Library Event -  “Speakin’ of the Blues”
DESCRIPTION:Composer, educator and journalist Larry Hoffman, a native of Baltimore and a pioneer in integrating post-war blues into classical music, talks with blues aficionado Barry Dolins. Mr. Hoffman has composed such pieces as <em>Blues Etude for Three Flutes</em>, <em>Wind Quintet No.2: The Blues</em>, <em>Blues Suite for Violincello</em>, <em>Blues for Orchestra</em>, and <em>String Quartet 1: The Blues</em>. The latter will be performed live by viola player Dominic Johnson and ensemble. Mr. Hoffman&rsquo;s latest work, <em>Three Songs for Bluesman and Orchestra</em>, done for blues singer-guitarist John Primer and the Chicago Sinfonietta, is to be presented in Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center on May 12th. <br /><br />This program is co-sponsored by The Mayor's Office of Special Events and the City of Chicago.
