DESCRIPTION:<a href='http://www.colum.edu/' title='Columbia College Chicago Website'>Columbia College Chicago</a> Fiction Writing Department presents&nbsp;17th Annual Story Week Festival of Writers programs in partnership with the Chicago Public Library.<br><br>Join us as bestselling author <strong>Sapphire</strong>&nbsp;converses with Alexis Pride, novelist and Director of Graduate Programs at Columbia College Chicago, to discuss&nbsp;and sign copies of her novel <em><a href='http://www.chipublib.org/search/details/cn/1437870' title='Push in CPL Catalog'><strong>Push</strong></a></em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Push</em> tells the story of an illiterate, brutalized Harlem teenager,&nbsp;won numerous literary awards and was the source for the noted 2009 movie <a href='http://www.chipublib.org/search/details/cn/8448256' title='Precious in CPL Catalog'><strong><em>Precious: Based on the Novel&nbsp;'Push' by Sapphire</em></strong></a><strong><em>.<br></em></strong><br>Famed in the worlds of literature, poetry and literacy--and an extraordinary public speaker--Sapphire is first and foremost a poet and performer.&nbsp; She is the author of <em>American Dreams</em>, cited by <em>Publisher's Weekly</em> as 'One of the strongest debut collections of the nineties;' and <em>Black Wings &amp; Blind Angels</em>, of which <em>Poets &amp; Writers</em> declared, 'With her soul on the line in each verse, her latest collection retains Sapphire's incendiary power to win hearts and singe minds.'<br><br>Seating is in the Cindy Pritzker Auditorium and available <em>first come, first served</em>.
