Outer Space, MySpace, and the Distance in Between—Redefining Exploration of Tom Wolfe’s The Right Stuff for the 21st Century

Date: Wed. October 15, 2008

Time: 6:00 pm

Program: One Book, One Chicago

About this event:
DePaul University – Student Center, Room 120
2250 N. Sheffield Ave.

Join a panel of distinguished DePaul faculty who will examine Wolfe’s book from interdisciplinary perspectives. How did Wolfe’s achievement help to open up new narrative and stylistic possibilities for serious journalistic history? How might a fuller knowledge of America’s post-war period enhance our appreciation of The Right Stuff? In what ways do some aspects of The Right Stuff seem dated now? What are the possibilities of reshaping the definition of the right stuff for today’s leaders and trailblazers, especially women? A discussion with the audience will follow the panelists’ presentations. Free and open to the public, no reservations required.
