About this event:

Read and discuss Dark Dude by Oscar Hijuelos at the Vodak/Eastside Branch Library on Wednesday, September 19 at 5:30 p.m.  Please call 312-747-5500 for additional information.

Like an urban Wizard of Oz, Dark Dude is the story of Rico, a white-skinned Cuban kid from the mean streets of Harlem who is transplanted to a place far, far away. When Rico cannot take the streets anymore he runs away to a commune run by homeboy Gilberto in upstate Wisconsin. Like Dorothy he has to deal with a lot of adversity and life changes, until he finally decides, “There is no place like home.”
