About this event:

Island of Lost Souls, from 1932, is a classic and chilling cinematic version of H. G. Wells’ novel The Island of Doctor Moreau, published in 1896.  Charles Laughton is a mad doctor conducting ghastly genetic experiments on a remote island in the South Seas, much to the fear and disgust of the shipwrecked sailor who finds himself trapped there.  This early horror classic illustrates that controversy surrounding medical ethics and research is a timeless theme.

It features Charles Laughton, Richard Arlen, Bela Lugosi, George Irving and Leila Hyams. This film will be shown on the big screen in the Cindy Pritzker Auditorium.  (1932, 70 min. restored version, dvd projection)

This program is a You Are What You Read: Summer Reads for Adults program, made possible with support from the Chicago Public Library Foundation.

Reservations are not required.
