Based on Theodore Dreiser’s An American Tragedy, Academy Award winning A Place in the Sun (1951) is a powerful story about choice and the tragic consequences of lies and betrayal.  With powerful performances by Elizabeth Taylor, Montgomery Clift and Shelley Winters, this film has been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being 'culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
