About this event:
The Center for Odissi Dance presents Padavali. The choreography by Artistic Director, Ipsita Mahapatra, is based on Rabindranath Tagore's poem in celebration of his 150th birthday. Odissi traces its origins to the ritual dances performed in the temples of the eastern Indian state of Orissa. After years of neglect, the present form of Odissi is what has been revied during the 20th century. Dedicated scholars and dance enthusiasts carefully researched manuscripts and studied the sculpture, painting and poetry of the region.
