About this event:
Panel and discussion with Ryan Conrad, editor and John D’Emilio and Yasmin Nair, contributors.
Against Equality: Queer Critiques of Gay Marriage, published by the Against Equality collective, documents the historical foundations of queer resistance to the gay marriage mainstream alongside contemporary critiques that engage issues of race, class, gender, citizenship and age. Many in the queer community do not think that marriage should be the guarantor of basic benefits like health care. The panel will feature presentations by three of the anthology’s contributors: artist and collective founder Ryan Conrad, historian and UIC professor John D’Emilio and Yasmin Nair, a local writer and member of Gender JUST, followed by an open question and answer session.
