Date: Sat. November 14, 2009

Location:
Budlong Woods
5630 N. Lincoln Avenue

Program: CityVerse

About this event:
Join champion slam coach Nicole Bruskewitz for this special CityVerse poetry performance workshop. Nicole is the coach of Chicago bilingual youth poetry group Nuestra Mezcla, prize-winners at the 2009 Half-Pint Poetics competition. “Ms. B” loves words in many languages, but especially one word: INSPIRATION.  Ms. B is a bilingual teacher in Chicago Public Schools who finds her inspiration in the creative energy of her students, but also in street food stalls across the world, in between the pages of her favorite books, in conversation with strangers and in the colors of autumn leaves floating on Lake Michigan. Her goal: to help you find your inspiration!

Poetry Slam takes poetry from the page to the stage. Performance poetry is one way Chicago youth tell stories from their lives, communities and imaginations. Chicago Youth, ages 8-14 are invited to this poetry performance workshop where they will:

•    EXPERIENCE SLAM POETRY BY KIDS, FOR KIDS
•    TEAM UP IN A POETRY RELAY
•    CREATE AND PERFORM AN ORIGINAL POEM
