Program: Polish American Heritage Month

About this event:
Please join us for the opening program which will be introduced by Joseph Zurawski, the author of Polish Chicago: Our History, Our Recipes.  Following his introduction a spirited concert will be performed by the innovative Chicago group, The Megitza Quartet. The group was formed by vocalist/bassist Margaret Babiarz.  Megitza’s music is influenced by Balkan and Brazilian music as well as from the flamenco and gypsy styles. As far as Poland itself is concerned, the band uses highlanders’ traditions of Margaret’s home village, Banska Wyzna, located in the Tatra Mountains of Southern Poland. Margaret herself is a composer and author of many songs which will be performed at the concert. She will be accompanied by Andreas Kapsalis on guitar, Marek Lichota on accordion/bayan, and Jamie Gallagher on drums.
