About this event:
Local musician-critic Richard Wyszynski offers a heartfelt salute to his friend, American composer-pianist-teacher Robert Muczynski (1929- ). Muczynski, a Chicago native who taught at DePaul University from 1955-58 and was a visiting lecturer at Roosevelt University in 1964-65, is especially known for his chamber music and piano pieces. Wyszynski will conduct two examples of Muczynski's works, the Fantasy Trio for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano (written in 1969) with Kathyrn Pirtle (clarinet), Judy Stone (cello), and Diana Schmuck (piano), and the Alto Saxophone Sonata (1970) featuring Susan Cook (saxophone) and Gerald Rizzer (piano). As Wyszynski observes, 'I've been his pal, colleague and dedicatee -- and through it all, Muczynski represents the purest aspirations which carry over into all his activities. He deplores pretentiousness, treats everyone with gentle respect and has spent his life trying to enhance the human spirit. [ Now ] I'm going to try and enhance his.'
