About this event:
El Payo is a Rumba/Nuevo Flamenco-Fused group based in Chicago. Its members come from diverse ethnic backgrounds, hailing from countries such as Mexico, Ecuador, Columbia and the United States. Their distinct sound is influenced by a rich combination of rumbas, traditional and modern flamenco, as well Flamenco-fused original compositions. Their dynamic, soulful sound will be accompanied by an intense flamenco dance performance.

The group opened up the prestigious 2005 and 2006 USA Flamenco Festival in Chicago. They have opened up for internationally know artists like Juan Carmona, Pitingo and Lila Downs. They have also appeared on ABC’s Chicagoing with Bill Campell. The group is led by singer David Gonzalez, flamenco guitarist David Chiriboga, percussionist/drummer Raul Fernandez, flamenco dancer Edwin Suarez. and bass guitarist Tom Kimball.

El Payo will be performing a blend of traditional flamenco, along with original flamenco-fused compositions as well. Edwin Suarez will be dancing pieces that are a blend of many choreographies learned through his vast years of dancing, along with some of his own arrangements.
