Founded by former slaves and free men looking for a better life, Black towns offered African Americans an alternative to the oppression often experienced in mainstream America. Join historian Beth Johnson as she compares the hopes and challenges faced by three of these cities: Brooklyn, Illinois; Nicodemus, Kansas; and Allensworth, California.
