About this event:
Please join us for a discussion of Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser. Published in 1900, the story chronicles the journey of small-town Wisconsin girl Caroline Meeber as she moves to the 'big city' of Chicago and rises to success - scandalously.
Dreiser's novels showcased characters whose actions were realistic, but not always virtuous; in an era when conventional morality strongly influenced acceptable social behavior, his work was considered shocking.
Copies of Sister Carrie are available at the branch's Circulation Desk. For further information, please call the branch at (312) 744-1926.
