On Becoming a Poet
Date: Sat. October 19, 2013
Time: 11:30 am
7455 W. Cornelia Avenue
About this event:
In his Letters to a Young Poet, Rainer Maria Rilke writes, “Ask yourself in the most silent hour of your night: must I write? Dig into yourself for a deep answer. And if this answer rings out in assent, if you meet this solemn question with a strong, simple ‘I must,’ then build your life in accordance with this necessity; your whole life, even into its humblest and most indifferent hour, must become a sign and witness to this impulse.”
In a writing workshop geared towards teens, Andrea Witzke Slot will explore the different ways that poetry can flourish and grow in the soil of our very busy, everyday lives.
Andrea Witzke Slot's first poetry collection, To find a new beauty, was published by Gold Wake Press in 2012. She teaches at UIC and is associate editor at Rhino Poetry as well as the book review editor at Fifth Wednesday Journal.
