About this event:
From 1915- 1970, America was changed forever when nearly six million people left the Jim Crow South for the promise of freedom in the North. Mississippi sharecropper Ida Mae Gladney got swept up in this mass exodus, leaving the rural segregated south for life in Chicago. Hear the story of her early beginnings and how she found herself a part of America's Great Migration in an excerpt from The Warmth of Other Suns.
Presented as part of the current One Book, One Chicago, which explores how migration has shaped Chicago.
