William Friedkin, the Academy Award-winning director of films including The French Connection, The Exorcist and To Live and Die in LA, joins Adam Kempenaar to discuss his new memoir titled The Friedkin Connection.
Mr. Friedkin, maverick of American cinema, offers a candid look at Hollywood, when traditional storytelling gave way to the rebellious and alternative; when filmmakers like him captured the paranoia and fear of a nation undergoing a cultural nervous breakdown.
With The Friedkin Connection, Mr. Friedkin takes readers from the streets of Chicago to the suites of Hollywood and from the sixties to today, with autobiographical storytelling as fast-paced and intense as any of his films.
Adam Kempenaar co-founded Filmspotting and is the show's host and exec. producer. He has a B.A. in film studies and M.A. in journalism from the Univ. of Iowa, plus a B.A. in English from Grinnell College.
He is a regular film instructor at the Univ. of Chicago's Graham School and he wrote the foreword for Jon J Muth's graphic novel adaptation of Fritz Lang's classic film M.
