Mango Languages offers online English courses for speakers of many different languages. After entering the site, create a profile to track your progress or simply click Start Learning. Then select English Courses under the Courses tab.

    Search for local organizations that provide assistance with learning English as a second language or offer citizenship classes. Volunteers may also search for service opportunities.

  2. City Colleges of Chicago: English Language Learners »

    The Adult Education Department of the City Colleges of Chicago offers English as a second language classes as well as courses to prepare for the U.S. naturalization exam. Courses are free and open to Illinois residents.

    Voice of America offers activities, quizzes and lessons to learn and practice English. Listen to words and phrases with Wordbooks.

  4. Illinois Adult Learning Hotline »

    Call or email to find ESL, citizenship or GED classes near your home or work. Operators speak English, Spanish and Polish and can provide referrals to students, volunteers and employers.

  5. Literacy Volunteers of Illinois »

    Literacy Volunteers of Illinois supports local volunteer literacy programs through referrals and training.

    Learn English online at this free site for beginning and intermediate learners. Listen to an introduction to the site in either English or Spanish.
